Horror Poster Analysis 3

The film was released in 2010, a comedy horror based around 2 hillbillies that go on holiday to a remote cabin in the middle of no-where. The poster shows 3 characters, tucker and dale being the 2 male characters and a mysterious female character who may or may not be the female in the image as well. The tag line ‘’evil just messed with the wrong hillbillies’’ indicates that the 2 male characters are actually the victims in the movie as opposed to the killer. The female in the image is young attractive blond with barely any clothes on, they are staggered back as if they are in danger. We also see at the bottom of the poster a burning cabin and since we know the hillbillies live in this cabin we can assume the character standing of front of it is the bad guy and having been shaded into a silhouette they are shown to be masked or have their identity hidden. The hillbillies are both carrying weapons and standing in a threatening pose which breaks the conventions of a horror poster where the victim is meant to look scared or helpless, the one in the middle is bigger and carries a larger weapon which could indicate a larger role in the movie towards the plot.

The poster contains a lot of very dark colour shades on bright colours, there is no real source of light but instead seems to be light coming from random direction when cast on the characters, the white and blue clothing stand out from the black and green background. The weapons are worn down silver which shows the dark and dreary nature of its use in the movie. The font used in the poster is custom and does not follow the normal convention of a horror poster, it doesn't distort or flow in a creepy way, the colours are evil reds/oranges with stains and cuts in them for the aspect of gore. Instead of letting off a horror and scary poster the fonts in the poster reinforce a comedy aspect to the movie.
The tagline is different between these 2 posters, ‘’evil just messed with the wrong hillbillies’’ and ‘’when up against pure evil just giv’er’’ are both comedy lines that reinforce that the 2 main characters are stereotypical hillbillies who have to fight to survive. Giv’er is a hat company that make hats for truckers which is why the line shows the heavy use of a red neck stereotype.
