UK Distribution

1) what is meant by the term film distribution?

the term film distribution is self explanatory, it is the method that a film, that has been completed and edited, is sent out to be published and aired on cinema or TV. most directors will send their film to a company dedicated to distributing products but some will distribute a finished film themselves.

2) What does a film distributor do?

they analyze and build a plan for the development of a movie to create the best revenue as well as balancing great advertising that pulls in the appropriate audience and the reasons they would want to see the film.

3)   How does reach relate to film distribution?

it gives a base idea of the target audience for the creator to designate the product towards, if the reach is too small then it may not be worth making a film for a small group of people but if the reach is larger then a product will be more developed and thought through. the reason this is important for a film distributor is that the film has to meet the requirements for the reached audience and the distribution agency checks that the film does that properly.

4)What is meant by the distribution plan?

it is the list of reports and updates that a distribution agency follows to make sure there are no errors in the product, it controls the pricing for the distribution of advertising and keeping up to date on the quality of the product being distributed

5)What is meant by the marketing plan?

the marketing plan is the route that someone would take to make sure that their film is a success, it is usually based around the budget and how much of the budget can go towards production and advertising. It goes over the aims and objectives such as whether it will include great actors or amazing CGI.

6) What is the difference between advertising, publicity and promotion?

Advertising can be seen anywhere and everywhere, if someone mentions something then they are advertising it without realizing, advertising usually focuses solely on the movie and only the movie. publicity is about telling people about how good the studio or company is that made the movie, a good example is the way a movie will advertise that the producer and writer of the film is Steven Spielberg, since he is a well known director it creates publicity for the film. promotion is varied as it can advertise a film but only one part of the film, such as the women in black had many promotions as it advertised the main character being the same person that played harry pottor.
