How effective is the combination of your product and ancillary texts?
How effective is the combination of your product and ancillary texts?
Any film that gets shown around the world has been distributed and advertised across every platform possible to try and spread the existence of the movie. The job of a film distribution company is to find the target audience and send the movie to them, this can be helped with good advertising and any advertisement requires the info to pull in the audience and potentially bring in new and potential audiences as well. There are many possible ways to advertise, these include the standard TV commercial where you get a time slot on a channel to show off the product in a trailer, or you can buy out a billboard and place a poster of the product to show off to drivers, another method is to collaborate with another company and spread the information of each others product (for example collaborating with coke cola so you spread adverts of coke and they place adverts of your product on the can). The type of advert is heavily dependent on the audience you're advertising towards, if you are advertising to young teenage girls then it would be better to place a poster in a magazine as opposed to if it is adult men where you could place a poster on the internet on business sites. It is not just the audience that matters in advertising, the product being advertised needs to be appropriate in the trailer and poster, a horror trailer needs to be scary or show how scary the movie can be. The same applies to all genre of film but in horror this is especially important as if the poster or trailer isn't scary then it wont bring in even the hardcore horror fans. When developing a brand for the product you are selling it is important to create an identity for the film, this could be a main character or a monster that sells the story of the film or sells the concept / moral of the film, by doing this you get a mascot that becomes memorable to the product which means that you can advertise through iconography.

Individual Idea
Initially I had an idea based on the idea of bullying being blamed for murder, the basic concept of the story was a teacher that puts up with a class of hooligans and roughians that don't listen to her or care about anything other than themselves. One day a student tries to push his luck and make a move on the teacher to which she grabs a knife and stabs him in self defense, the teacher manages to cover it as a result of bullying only to realize that she enjoying stabbing him and the thrill of giving her students as much pain as possible excited her so she goes on a killing spree and covers each kill with a lie such as suicidal or drug overdose making sure that the body looked like it could have been killed in that way. Soon the school she works at loses its credibility and closes down but she hasn't had enough and goes insane looking for victim after victim to quench her thirst for blood, only to then find out she has killed every student that ever wronged her. with no purpose left and no job left she ends her life by stabbing herself in the same way she stabbed her first victim.
